Drug and Alcohol Testing – Now Available!
New Horizons Safety and Training Services (NHST) is providing the opportunity to reduce risks associated with the use of recreational drugs and alcohol by providing clients testing services. As part of the Work Health and Safety policies, the testing of Drugs and Alcohol has been incorporated as an essential requirement for the safety of workers across multiple industries.

- Point-of-Care (POC) drug screening using urine and saliva testing devices for on-the-spot screening.
- Breath alcohol screening using professional-use electronic breath alcohol testing equipment certified to AS 3547.1:2019.
- Please note payment upon booking is required and all fees a non-refundable where you do not attend your appointment without 24 hours notice.

Our urine drug screening service uses the DrugSense DSU7 urine drug test cup and provides an initial screening result within minutes. The DSU7 screens for seven drug groups plus alcohol:
The DSU7 is designed to comply with the cut-off levels specified in AS/NZS 4308:2023. The device also incorporates checks for specimen adulteration. The initial screening result will be reported as negative or non-negative. Where a non-negative screening result is obtained, the sample may be referred for laboratory confirmatory testing, where required, in accordance with the applicable testing procedure and client requirements. Additional laboratory fees may apply. Where all tested drug classes return a negative screening result, a final screening report will be issued on the day of testing. |
Saliva drug screening is an oral fluid-based point-of-care immunoassay test used to screen for the presence of selected illicit and/or prescription drugs and alcohol. New Horizons uses the DrugSense DS08 Plus Saliva Screen Test, which complies with AS/NZS 4760:2019 requirements. The test is simple and discreet, with results visually interpreted by our trained staff within minutes. The DrugSense DS08 Plus screens for eight drug groups plus alcohol, including:
The initial screening result will be reported as negative or non-negative. Where a non-negative screening result is obtained, the sample may be referred for laboratory confirmatory testing, where required, in accordance with the applicable testing procedure and client requirements. Our trained team conduct breath alcohol screening using the Alcolizer HH3, a professional-use breath alcohol testing device certified to AS 3547.1:2019. The HH3 is a calibrated, hand-held electronic breath alcohol testing device used to provide an initial breath alcohol screening result. Where the initial breath alcohol screening indicates the presence of alcohol above 0.00, a second breath sample may be obtained in accordance with the applicable testing procedure and workplace drug and alcohol policy. Where the second test also indicates the presence of alcohol, the result will be recorded and reported in accordance with the applicable testing procedure and client requirements. |

Please Note: New Horizons Safety & Training Services cannot disclose the nature of a non-negative (unconfirmed test result) to the employer until the confirmatory results are released. If the employer requires this information for their interim safety-critical work purposes it is up to the employee to disclose their unconfirmed results to their employer; and the employer to act as per their own drug and alcohol policy. Please note incases where additional laboratory costs are required for further testing additional costs are required.
