Standard 11 2 Day Partial (Surface Induction)

Designed for new entrants or those updating their skills after a period of time, this Standard 11 – Surface Induction has been specifically designed for candidates wishing to obtain a Generic Induction Passport, which will allow them to enter and work on  a Coal Mine Site in Queensland. 2 Pathway options are available.

Course Outcomes

RIISS00034 – Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set

2 Day Program (Mon-Tues) Partial 

Upon successful completion of your Standard 11 – Surface Induction 2 day program (partial) you will initially receive:

  • Statement of Completion
  • Site Verification Workbook – to be completed onsite

The candidate must return the workbook within six (6) months from course completion for it to be assessed by New Horizons Safety and Training Services. Once the workbook has been completed successfully and returned to New Horizons Safety and Training Services for assessment, the candidate will be issued the following:

  • Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment
  • Standard 11 Surface Induction Passport – Valid For Five (5) Years

This program option is great for participants who are already employed and able to be inducted on site after the two day course.

It is a requirement  to have the workbook completed onsite before having a Statement of Attainment issued to the candidate. We do recommend contacting the site you work for or intend on working for to confirm any processes they may have in place.

Upon successful completion of your Standard 11 – Surface Induction 3 day program you will receive:

  • Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment
  • Standard 11 Surface Induction Passport – Valid For Five (5) Years (you must maintain your currency to renew in 5 years time)

This course structure allows you to obtain your Statement of Attainment ready for site entry.

Recognised Standard 11 – Information
The purpose of this standard is to assist sites to establish and maintain a training system which includes processes for identifying and delivering competent, safe and efficient work teams. Recognised Standard 11 compliant Coal Mining Induction training programs have been developed to assist mine sites in meeting their legislative obligations. Please note for those entering a BMA site, you will need to contact BMA to ensure this induction is suitable for entry to a BMA site.

NHST offer two pathways with a 2 day or 3 day program. Please read below for further detail.

This training program includes the following units of competencies:

RIISS00034 – Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set

RIIRIS201D – Conduct Local Risk Control
Hazard ID, control and risk assessment and in a mining environment.

RIIERR302E – Respond to Local Emergencies and incidents
Prepare and respond to emergencies in a mine environment.

RIIGOV201D – Comply with Site Work Processes / Procedures
Access and apply site safety procedures, apply personal safety measures, maintain personal well-being, and complete relevant reports and forms.

RIIWHS201D – Work Safely and Follow WHS Policies and Procedures
Working safely and follow WHS policies and procedures, accessing and apply site safety procedures; applying personal safety measures and operational safety measures; maintaining personal well being for job; and identifying and reporting incidents.

RIIERR205D – Apply Initial Response First Aid
Assess the situation, apply basic first aid and complete incident reports.

RIICOM201D – Communicate in the Workplace
Identify, access and use work site communication systems and equipment, carry out work related communication, and complete written documentation.

Candidates of the Standard 11 – Surface Induction will develop real skills by being involved in practical activities conducted in at our workshop and extractive site. Skills that are fundamentally important to the mining industry such as:

  • Hazard identification
  • Risk control
  • Isolating and tagging
  • Communication
  • Manual handling
  • Use and control of hazardous substances

These skills are an integral part of the Standard 11 – Surface Induction and workshop activities will provide participants with opportunity to develop those skills.

Program Assessment Outline for 2 Day Partial Program only

Day 1 – Theory Assessment

Day 2 – Theory Assessment (for those completing the first 2 days, you will be issued with a Site Verification Booklet that will need to be completed and returned).

New Horizons Safety & Training Services recognises that whilst there is a standard set of learning outcomes for this course, the context and environment in which the learning is applied is varied. We will always customise the course to suit your unique workplace requirements. Please ask our staff about alternate training and assessment strategies that can be designed should you have prior experience or knowledge including but not limited to change in course days, disability options, LLN support where applicable, credit transfer/RPL and in house one on one where available.

 

Course Pre-Requisites

Photo identification to be provided on the day your program commences.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
This training program requires basic reading, writing and numeracy skills to a Level 2 under the LLN framework.
Prior to enrolling you will be asked to complete a small LLN assessment to allow us to determine your training needs and requirements. You will be required to complete a LLN questionnaire prior to enrolling so that we may determine your level of LLN in accordance with the framework.

Participants must:
Have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills and
have the ability to read, hear and write English. Reasonable adjustment can be made, so please contact us to discuss options.

Your Rights and Responsibilities
It is a requirement of the Australian Skills and Qualification Authority (ASQA) that students be made aware of their rights and responsibilities prior to enrolling into any of our training courses at New Horizons Safety and Training Services.

Learners will be required to provide their Unique Student Identifier prior to the commencement of the course (usi.gov.au to register)

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) 
If you feel you have the required skills, past experience or qualifications that should be recognised as part of this program, then please mention this to our friendly staff to discuss your options

Credit Transfer
Credit Transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for units/qualifications that can be identified as equivalent in content. Please discuss this option upon enrolment if you feel your learning outcome can be matched with a current unit or qualification you may already hold.

Study Pathway

Upon successful completion of the Generic Induction (S11), participants can further their skill set by undertaking other courses relevant to the mining industry. This includes courses such as the supervisor course (S123), Four-Wheel Drive & Light Vehicle, and machinery training.
