Basic First Aid Training and CPR
Do you require practical first aid skills? This program will provide you with up to date first aid and CPR procedures. You will learn how to respond in an emergency situation, communicate details of the incident and evaluate your own performance.

On successful completion of this training course, candidates will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment with the unit of competencies HLTAID003 Provide first aid and HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation issued by New Horizons Safety & Training Services (RTO Number 31372)
Once you have successfully completed this course your First Aid skills will be valid for 3 years. However, the CPR component of the course is valid for 12 months and will need to be updated annually for you to keep your certification current.
New Horizons Safety & Training Services recognises that whilst there is a standard set of learning outcomes for this course, the context and environment in which the learning is applies is varies. We will always customise the course to suit your unique workplace requirements if required. Please ask our friendly staff about training and assessment strategies that can be designed should you have prior experience or knowledge including but not limited change in course days, disability options, LLN support where applicable, credit transfer/rpl options and in house one on one if required.

First Aid is not just a useful skill, it could also help save a life and minimise the impact of injuries. Learn everything from CPR, bandaging and anaphylaxis management to removing obstructions from a choking child.

- DRSABCD action plan
- Managing the unconscious, breathing casualty
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Managing an unconscious casualty
- First aid kits
- Wounds and bleeding
- Medical emergencies
- Heat and cold induced illness
- Safety and risk management
- Strains, sprains, dislocations and fractures
- Head, neck and spinal injuries
- Chest and abdominal injuries
- Facial and eye injuries
- Bites and stings
- Infection control
Assessment may be conducted using the following methods:
- Written Questions and Answers
- Role play/Demonstration Assessment
- Please note that this program requires a physical aspect where the candidate is required to kneel on the floor and apply compression demonstrations for more than 2 minutes at a time. If this practical component presents as an issue for you, please contact us before enrolling.
- Photo identification is required on the day your program commences
Student Support and Language, Literacy and Numeracy
This training program requires basic reading, writing and numeracy skills.
Prior to enrolling please contact New Horizons Safety and Training Services to discuss our support services if required. NHST will ask for a LLN indicator to be completed prior to enrolment where the student can no demonstrate to at least a level 2 of the framework.

It is a requirement of the Australian Skills and Qualification Authority (ASQA) that students be made aware of their rights and responsibilities prior to enrolling into any of our training courses at New Horizons Safety and Training Services.

If you feel you have the required skills, past experience or qualifications that should be recognised as part of this program, then please mention this to our friendly staff to discuss your options
Credit Transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for units/qualifications that can be identified as equivalent in content. Please discuss this option upon enrolment if you feel your learning outcome can be matched with a current unit or qualification you may already hold
